Stretch mark prevention – can you really prevent stretch marks with revitol stretch mark cream?

If you’ve ever had a stretch mark, then you already know — you do NOT want another!  I’m 15 weeks pregnant, and if you’re anything like me, then this is on your mind a LOT!  In the shower, at work, talking to my husband, it doesn’t matter, because stretch mark prevention is never far from my mind.

But can Revitol Stretch Mark Cream, or ANY other stretch mark oil, really, truly show me how to get rid of stretchmarks and prevent stretch marks?

Revitol stretch mark cream is put to the test

As soon as I was pregnant, my husband and I set out to learn the facts.  We had a LOT of questions.  Probably some of the same ones you have…

What are the best stretch mark creams?

Is there a stretch mark cure?  If I have stretch marks while pregnant, what are these breast and belly stretch marks going to look like after pregnancy, after I squeeze 8 pounds out of me?  Will they get worse?  What are the causes of stretch marks, and is the best stretch mark treatment?  Is the best treatment revitol stretch mark cream?

What we discovered might just surprise you…

First, what exactly is a stretch mark?  Even this seemingly simple question raises controversy.  There are two schools of thought.  Generally accepted is the idea that, when skin stretches too fast, small tears form within the layer of the dermis.  The dermis is the layer of tissue between the surface skin (where your hair is, and what we typically think of as the skin) and the underlying fatty tissue laying just above the muscle and other, deeper tissues.

When this layer tears from stretching, stretch marks are formed. These tears have a purplish or reddish appearance.  These are stretch marks.

However, one scientific group is claiming to be able to create stretch marks in healthy skin with no stretching at all, using only hormones!  Does this change everything?  I don’t think so.

These hormones are similar to the hormones found in our bodies during any major physiological changes.   Although the link between hormones and stretch marks alone is not new thinking, the idea that stretch marks can form without the skin “stretching” certainly is.

It has long been believed that hormonal changes during pregnancy, adolescence, and other times of significant physical change, limit structures within the dermis layer of the skin, preventing it from forming some of the complex chemical combinations it uses to stay supple and pliable and able to stretch without tearing.  The more of these hormones in your system, the more likely to develop a stretch mark you become.

Add to this a recent study performed at the University of Barcelona School of Medicine, which found that in their trial:

“In women with a history of striae [stretch marks] during puberty, the active cream induced a significant absolute prevention in 89% of the cases whereas in the placebo group all the women developed striae (p= 0.00014; ?2 test).”

In other words, this means that the vast majority of women in their study — 89% — who already had a history of stretch marks (and were then more likely to get them during pregnancy) were able to prevent getting new stretch marks entirely by using a topical cream like revitol stretch mark cream treatment.

The bottom line?  Whatever school of thought you follow, stretch marks caused by stretching of the skin, hormones in the skin, or both, it seems clear that at least one scientific study has PROVEN that application of certain topical creams can prevent stretch marks from forming.
